My First Big Jump in Lap Times

Session 1 – Getting a Baseline

My first run of the day was mostly about getting comfortable. I pushed a bit, but I didn’t feel like I had the right rhythm. The best lap was 49.5 seconds. Not bad for a first go, but I knew I could do better.

Session 2 – Trying Something New

While waiting for my second session, I overheard the driver ahead of me talking to the marshal about leaning into corners and using the “out–in–out” line. I’d seen that tip on YouTube before, so I decided to try it.

No warm-up, no testing the waters—I just went for it. I leaned into every corner and committed to the racing line the whole lap.

By the end of the session, my best lap time dropped to 40.45 seconds. That’s almost nine seconds faster than the first run.

This was my very first karting session.

It wasn’t the smoothest run, but it showed me how much difference one technique change can make. I’m more confident now, and next time I want to focus on keeping that pace while making the laps cleaner.
